2020 ICDBG-CARES Project – Public Comment Notice:
Housing has been approved by Council to apply for a Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Indian Community Development Block Grant (ICDBG-CARES) Implementation grant to address imminent threat mitigation related to COVID-19 Tribal response. The grant makes available $900,000 to the Tribe to address COVID19 response issues. We propose to build (4) 2-bedroom and (1) 3-bedroom home, in order to get members out of crowded living conditions and allow more members to be located at Aki Maadiziwin were they are at lower risk of exposure to COVID19 and closer to Tribal government resources during times of epidemic/pandemic crisis.
This opportunity came up with only two weeks’ notice to submit this application (June 1st) requiring an expedited processes through Tribal Council. Because the funding must be accessed and used within one year, plans are to use our current modular home provider who is able to fulfill these requirements in an affordable yet quality manner. They were the successful bidder last year for two homes now being completed at Aki. The application must show construction plans and demonstrate that the timeline will be met.
Membership may join Tribal Council by phone on Wednesday, May 24th at 10am. A brief explanation will be provided and membership can ask questions and provide comments on the project.
Call-in number: (866) 213 – 1863
