This program completes baseline monitoring within the 1836 Reservation boundaries.
This includes: Sickle Creek, Bear Creek, Pine Creek, Old House Creek, Big Manistee River, Manistee Lake, Tippy Dam Pond, and Lake Michigan.
The Water Quality program currently operates under TAS for Clean Water Act 106 and Clean Water Act 319 authorities. This program involves long-term monitoring for several variables and
works to reduce non-point source pollution in the Big Manistee Watershed.
What We Monitor For
Chemical and physical parameters, zooplankton, macroinvertebrates, fish, and habitat.
Fish Contaminant Monitoring
Mainly monitoring for Mercury, PCBs, and Pesticides. This information helps inform our membership about safe fish consumption.
Watershed Restoration
Culvert Replacements.
