Wildlife Program
Purpose/Mission
The Wildlife Division is designed to preserve, protect and enhance Tribal Wildlife resources while providing subsistence harvest opportunities to Little River Band of Ottawa Indian (LRBOI) citizens. The right of Tribal subsistence harvest is promoted through ongoing wildlife and habitat assessments, Tribal outreach activities, inter-agency cooperation, habitat restoration, invasive species control, and sound scientific management.

EPA Grant - Targeted Watershed Initiative
This grant has allowed the Tribe to study the effects of common restoration practices over a watershed. Research focused on measurable results and alterations in water quality. We will be looking at the response of water chemistry, habitat, macroinvertebrates and fish communities over time. The Big Manistee watershed is composed of approximately 1,780 square miles in northwest Lower Michigan and contains parts of 12 counties. The Tribe utilizes numerous resources that the watershed provides.Water Quality Program

Goals and Objectives
- The water quality program is designed to monitor Reservation surface water quality. This will lead to the development of designated uses for water bodies and Tribal water quality standards.
- The Clean Water Act (CWA) authorizes the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to provide financial assistance for water quality planning and management to Indian Tribes under Section 106. The LRBOI base water qualtiy program is funded mainly through U.S. EPA Clean Water Act Section 106 grants.

Tribal Brownfield and Response Program
- The Little River Band of Ottawa Indians has been developing a Tribal Brownfield and Response Program since 2004 with a CERCLA 128(a) Tribal Response Program grant from the US Environmental Protection Agency.
- The US EPA defines a Brownfield as "real property, the expansion, redevelopment, or reuse of which may be complicated by the presence or potential presence of a hazardous substance, pollutant, or contaminant."
